If you’re in your 30s or 40s and noticing things are a little off,
don’t rule out pre-menopause. Perimenopause is the season before you hit menopause. Typically perimenopause lasts less than five years; but some women have experienced symptoms for only a few months and even up to ten years. Every woman’s body is different; therefore every woman enters (and exits) perimenopause differently. Hormone levels begin changing and give off signs that you’re getting older and menopause is drawing nearer.
Each patient’s symptoms of perimenopause differ, however many women tend to experience one or more of the following:
- Changes in periods – heavier, lighter, less often, more frequent
- Weight gain
- Mood swings, depression and anxiety
- Hot flashes
- Higher cholesterol and blood pressure
- Painful intercourse or decreased libido
- Urinary incontinence
- Bone loss
- Struggles in fertility
HRT for Perimenopause
Oz Preventive Medicine offers HRT for perimenopausal patients. Traditional synthetic hormones prescribed to patients facing perimenopause may cause insomnia, headaches, pain and more depression.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy begins with a consultation to first determine if you are in perimenopause. Blood work will indicate any hormone deficiencies. In the event HRT is needed, our skilled physician will prescribe an individualized regimen of therapies to combat symptoms and reduce any unwanted health risks.
